Trenary Northern Trails Snowmobile Club John Deer Groomer Tractor Stuck
One Seriously Stuck Groomer
A couple weeks back... let's say just a few days into 2020... A brand new, $250k John Deere groomer tractor belonging to Trenary Northern Trails Snowmobile Club, on its third trip ever, got stuck in a creek from one of the many, many wet spots and holes this snowmobile season with last fall's wet conditions and winter's fast onset and heavy early snows.
Groomer Stuck Overnight
The fully tracked JD 6130 completely broke the cast iron front axle housing...in the creek... overnight.

DEF Hauling & Stuff recovered the groomer the next day with its 16 ton excavator, bulldozer, 2 semi truck and trailer rigs, and lots of chains and clevises, along with my good friend (and part-time magician) Steve Bailey of Traunik, and fellow excavator and my equipment mobilization specialist Ted "Shorty" Hancheck of Wilson, Michigan. Thank you also to Steve Walters, Max, and Bud. The towing Gods were smiling that day. Things were harmoniously fluid with the recovery mostly due to the talent we had on hand that day.

The brand new machine, with all its parts (some slightly detached) were retrieved unscathed and returned to Chatham.
Loading Drag / Sled
The night sets in as we trailered up the drag/sled that is pulled behind the groomer. We lifted the approximately 10,000# drag/ sled with a 3-point pick onto a trailer it had never been on and nestled it perfectly into perfect transport position. (Maybe we got a little lucky there!)

At DEF Hauling N Stuff's shop the next Sunday afternoon, the groomer was loaded onto the John Deere dealer's lowboy. Traction control systems get all confused with a missing track whether they're in two or four-wheel drive.
